Day 1: Arusha City or Moshi Town to Lemosho Gate (2385 m) – Big Tree Camp (2780 m)

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2780 m) – Shira Camp 1 (3500 m)

Day 3: Shira Camp 1 (3500 m) – Shira Camp 2 (3900 m)

Day 4: Shira Camp 2 (3900 m) – Lava Tower (4640 m) – Barranco Camp (3960 m)

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3960 m) – Karanga Camp (4035 m)

Day 6: Karanga Camp (4035 m) – Barafu Camp (4640 m)

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4640 m) – Uhuru Peak (5895 m) – Mweka Camp (3080 m)

The Lemosho route is known for its tranquility, making it one of the quieter paths on the mountain. It’s also the newest route and offers diverse ecological systems and landscapes.

Itinerary

ay 1: Arusha City or Moshi Town to Lemosho Gate (2385 m) – Big Tree Camp (2780 m)

Your adventure begins with a morning drive to the Lemosho Gate, where you’ll register with the national park authorities. The trek commences through lush rainforests, offering a glimpse of the incredible journey ahead. Today’s walk is relatively short, around 2.30 hours, leading you to the enchanting Big Tree Camp at 2780 m.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2780 m) – Shira Camp 1 (3500 m)

After breakfast, you’ll follow a slender trail through the rainforest before entering the moorland. The landscape transforms, with Erica and Lobelia plants dominating the scenery. After 3-4 hours, you’ll arrive at Shira Camp 1 (3500 m) for your evening meal and overnight stay.

Day 3: Shira Camp 1 (3500 m) – Shira Camp 2 (3900 m)

Today’s trek will be less strenuous than the previous day. You’ll traverse Shira Ridge, offering panoramic views of the Rift Valley and Mt. Meru. The terrain varies, with remnants of ancient lava flows underfoot. You’ll pass towering Senecien plants on your way to Shira Camp 2 at 3900 m, 400 m higher than the previous night.

Day 4: Shira Camp 2 (3900 m) – Lava Tower (4640 m) – Barranco Camp (3960 m)

Following breakfast, your journey leads to Lava Tower, with a significant altitude gain of approximately 740 m. You’ll enjoy a rest here before descending, providing your body with valuable acclimatization experience. The landscape transforms once more as you pass through the Barranco Valley, featuring impressive Senecias and smaller Lobelia plants. After 6-7 hours of trekking, you’ll reach your beautiful overnight camp, Barranco Camp.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3960 m) – Karanga Camp (4035 m)

This morning, you’ll tackle the famous Barranco Wall, one of the steepest sections of the route. Your guides will ensure a safe ascent, and while you may use your hands for balance, there are no technical climbing elements. Once atop, you’ll traverse the mountain ridge, potentially offering stunning views of Kibo’s southern glacier and summit. After 3-4 hours, you’ll reach Karanga Camp at 4035 m for the night.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (4035 m) – Barafu Camp (4640 m)

Today’s destination is Barafu Camp, situated at 4640 m. After breakfast, embark on a 3-4 hour hike through the afro-alpine desert. Upon arrival, enjoy an early dinner and prepare for the exciting summit climb tomorrow.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4640 m) – Uhuru Peak (5895 m) – Mweka Camp (3080 m)

Your day starts at 00:00 with hot tea and biscuits before embarking on a 5-7 hour ascent to Stella Point, the crater rim of Kilimanjaro. From there, it’s another 1-2 hours to reach the highlight of your journey, Uhuru Peak at 5895 m. Watch the sunrise over Africa from this breathtaking vantage point. After capturing memories and photos, descend to Barafu Camp for a well-deserved rest. Later, continue to Mweka Gate (3080 m), a 3-hour walk. Enjoy your evening, savoring a hearty meal and a good night’s sleep.

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3080 m) – Mweka Gate (1630 m) – Arusha City or Moshi Town

After breakfast and a farewell ceremony with your mountain guides, embark on a 2-3 hour walk through the rainforest back to Mweka Gate. Our driver will be waiting to take you to the Sal Salinero Hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax and reflect on the past few days’ adventures.
